My Story

Hi, I’m Kim Bauer. I was born and raised in Seattle and was your typical horse crazy little girl. I had (actually I still have it) a Breyer model horse collection and at a young age started pestering my parents for a horse. I also went so far as to declare that one day I was going to own my own property with enough land to have my own horses. They were kind enough to indulge me and I started at pony camp when I was 7 or 8.  From there I moved on to lessons and bigger and bigger horses.

Fast forward to when I was 30 and my partner, Mike and I purchased 5 acres outside of Hood River, Oregon. The current owners were moving out of the country and wanted to know if I would like to keep their 2 horses. My dream had come true! We eventually added 2 mustangs to the small herd and my passion for horses is still going strong.

Professionally I have a BA in Philosophy and a Master of Arts in Teaching and have been teaching since 1992. I started at the middle school level before moving down to elementary school and my summer breaks found me taking classes in equine acupressure and massage so I could better support my own horses. Needless to say I was immediately hooked!

I went on to get certified with Tallgrass Animal Acupressure Institute and was a member of their first graduating class. About the same time a friend introduced me to the Northwest School of Animal Massage programs and I jumped into their classes to add more skills.

After obtaining dual certification from both schools I was asked to be an instructor for each school. This was the perfect blending of my teaching background with my passion for animal bodywork. So in 2005 I took a leap of faith and left my elementary school teaching job to start my own business, Animal Ease Therapies.  Additionally I started teaching animal acupressure and animal massage classes for Tallgrass and NWSAM.

I look forward to working with you as you move through the equine and/or small animal acupressure program at SchoolAIT.
